Creating content to help everyone feel like they belong at university

How the University of Leeds moved past generic comms to create bespoke, high-impact content hubs for their diverse student population.

The mission: True representation

  • End generic student messaging

  • Connect diverse groups with tailored resources

  • Bridge the gap in student communications

The University of Leeds knows that a student’s heritage, identity or family status completely changes their university experience.

They didn't want a standard communications platform with a ‘one-size-fits-none’ approach, they wanted to provide hyper-relevant support.

The challenge was building a space that felt authentic to everyone, from LGBTQ+ students to those with families, without burying the info in a massive, unnavigable web platform.

Bespoke content hubs, powered by Browzer Engage

Partnering with both staff and students, Leeds used their Browzer Engage platform, Residential Life, to build dedicated landing pages for specific communities.

What’s inside:

Tailored Lifestyle Guides: From Black hair and beauty salons in Leeds to accessible shopping routes for disabled students.

Cultural Connection: Curated Stories, covering everything from Muslim student support to navigating the city as an international student.

Timed Integration: Strategic promotion tied to the calendar, ensuring LGBTQ+ History Month or religious festivals were celebrated with substance.

10,000 moments of belonging

By delivering content that actually reflects student realities, the results went far beyond just clicks.

Since July 2023, these tailored stories have racked up over 10,000 page views. By ditching the mass-email approach, Leeds saw a huge spike in students actually consuming and returning to the content.

The Browzer Engage platform has become a tool for empowerment. It helps students navigate the city and the University as their authentic selves.

It’s a move from enrolling students to truly welcoming them.

Why this changes the game

Leeds’ story proves that targeted content is the most powerful tool for inclusion.

By reflecting the diverse identities of your residents, you move beyond generic messaging and create a space where students see themselves represented, directly increasing their sense of belonging and retention.

This isn’t just a one-off campaign, it’s a commitment to empowerment.

By building these bespoke hubs, we help your digital presence evolve alongside your student population, ensuring your support remains timely, relevant and impactful year-after-year.
