Instagram is without a doubt my favourite social media platform and the most used app on my phone. It’s usually the first thing I check on a morning and the last thing I look at before I go to bed. Sad, I know!


People go to Instagram for all sorts of reasons but for me, there are few:

1. The sheer ‘lols’ that it provides. Whether it’s memes, videos or just photos of animals dressed as people. The escapism factor can provide a few minutes of joy after a busy, stressful day.

2. Some ‘#inspo’. Whether it’s amazing food that I want to eat or even more amazing dogs that I want to squeeze, Instagram has plenty to be envious for.

3. Celebrity stalking. This can easily get out of hand and after a short time scrolling through the lives of the rich and famous you may start to believe you are in fact a long-lost sister of the Kardashians or you’re Justin Bieber’s new BFF!

4. Keeping up with friends and family. (Or more-often-than-not, seeing daily updates from of your Mum’s friend’s daughter who just had a baby. Great!)

Since its launch in 2010, Instagram has become one of the most popular apps and social media platforms in the world. Active users worldwide are above 600 million which is surprisingly nearly double Twitter’s figure.

Apart from the Instagram account itself, which tops 200 million followers, Selena Gomez is the most followed person on the site with 114 million followers. That’s nearly double the UK population!

With more than 95 million photos and videos shared daily, if you’ve got something to say, chances are, Instagram is a good place to say it. There are 4.2 billion posts being liked daily, is one of those yours?

In 2015, Facebook IQ commissioned a study to delve deeper into Instagram users. It showed that over 70% of users are between the ages of 15 and 35. 69% of millennials are checking their Instagram account from home, 39% just before going to sleep and 33% as soon as they wake up. That means, Instagram is capturing its audience’s attention at all times of the day!

Whether it’s fitness fanatic @clean_eating_alice, international brand @skysports or the ’95 mil following’ @kimkardashian that you follow, they’re all wanting you to do something.

Other than a platform for users to pass the time and browse the lives of the rich and famous, drowning in envy as they go, Instagram is an unmissable marketing tool.
